Bend Oregon real estate is probably one of the best investments you can make in your lifetime. Bend is one of the most desirable places to live in the United States. There are many kinds of real estate in Bend that are good investments. Below are just a few.

Luxury Homes – Bend has its share of luxury homes. Awbrey Butte, Broken Top, Pronghorn, down town Bend and homes on residential acreage hold a large portion of Bend’s luxury homes. To be considered a luxury home the home must have solid counter tops, commercial grade appliances, have a triple car garage or larger and have top quality finishes through out. The lot should also be at least a quarter acre or more with some seclusion or privacy.

As Bend continues to grow, more and more luxury homes are being built. Bend is becoming known for its skiing, relatively mild weather (four seasons), fishing, golfing and many other activities. Bend will continue to grow and the demand for luxury homes will increase in the coming years. Compared to other parts of the country Bend has some real bargains on Luxury Homes.

Horse Properties – Bend is also horse country. Since Bend is in the high desert horse properties here should have irrigation rights in order to have pasture. Many buyers that ride frequently prefer to be able to ride out the gate on their property and hit the trails on state land, National Forest land or Bureau of Land Management land. If not, most horse property in Bend is a short trailer ride away to some outstanding riding.

Horse set ups in Bend start around $400,000 and go up to the multi-million dollar range. There is usually a good variety of horse property available for sale in Bend at any given time. The Tumalo area in NW Bend has some very premium horse set ups. There are also some extremely nice properties in the upper price range in the Sisters, Oregon area. Sisters is only 15 miles West of Bend.

River Front Homes – Water front homes are rare in Bend and bring a premium price when available. There are no lakes in Bend with private property on the water. There is only the Deschutes River which runs from South to North through the heart of Bend.

River front homes in downtown Bend sell at a premium. The Deschutes River in downtown is called Mirror Pond. Prices on nice homes on Mirror Pond start around $1,000,000 and go up. If you are lucky enough to own a home on Mirror Pond you can walk to all of the activities downtown. The downtown area has a multitude of activities year round.

Retirement Homes – Maybe these should be called homes to retire in so not to be confused with homes for the elderly with 24 hour care.

Retirees from all over the United States are moving to Bend. The weather, golfing, fishing, hiking, kayaking, medical facilities, art community, festivals, camping etc. are a huge draw to retirees. Redmond Oregon which is 16 miles north has an International Airport which makes travel to and from Bend easy.

When one hears Salem, one may automatically think of witch trials. However, in the heart of the Willamette Valley, lies the capital of the US state of Oregon. Salem is nicknamed the Cherry City for its burgeoning cherry industry in the past. The city has plentiful offerings for all travelers from gardens to markets and vineries to festivals. The Willamette River flows along Salem; this city is surrounded for the most part by hills, including the volcanic Salem hills in the south.

The fun never stops in Salem and its calendar is full of events – fairs and festivals. Visit Salem in the near future to enjoy your slice of entertainment. Some of these are the ‘Uncorked Wine Auction’ and ‘25th Annual Sheep to Shawl Festival’, both in May. Ensure that you check the dates and timings of both these events before scheduling a visit.

Schreiner’s Gardens

Feast your eyes on a cornucopia of irises at the Schreiner’s Gardens. A major grower of the iris flower, visitors can view the endless varieties of this lovely blossom. For those interested, the garden also has an information catalog about the flower.

The early morning ascension of hot air balloons is a breathtaking experience. The 5:45AM launch time may seem daunting, but to sweeten the pot, Hayden’s Lake Front Grill is preparing you an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast. Enjoy mouth watering pancakes either plain or smothered in butter and syrup while you enjoy the early morning hot air balloon launches on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The festival lasts all weekend and events include morning hot air balloon launches, food, Festival of Cars, a Rogue beer garden, carnival rides, a premier youth soccer tournament, a BBQ contest, night glowing balloons and a whole lot more. View the complete schedule of events online.

If you’re not an early riser you won’t get to see the launches, but you’ll get to see the glow. Friday and Saturday nights starting at dusk there will be a number of balloons inflated and lit up on the field for festival goers to see.

Oregon transportation in general is usually a stress-free experience. Miles of open road perfect for driving, the Oregon coastline is a favorite roadway for travel by car. Within the cities, Oregon transportation tends toward keeping Oregon green, with lots of public transportation available in Portland and some of the larger cities such as Eugene. Smaller towns, like most rural area, do not offer the same level of public transportation, and if you plan to camp or hike along the back roads you’ll want a car.

Public transportation in Portland is by far the best offered in the state. Both trains in Portland Oregon and Portland Oregon city buses are completely free when you ride them downtown. In an effort to encourage folks to leave their cars out of the downtown area, a 300 square block section of downtown offers free transportation. This is extremely handy for tourists and makes getting around fairly simple. The Portland Oregon city bus and the street car combine to make stops at the Portland Art Museum and many of Portland’s best restaurants and shopping. Even in the areas where rides are not free, the Portland Oregon city bus system provides great service to locations on the outskirts of town as well.

Portland, Oregon is perhaps one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It’s vast number of parks, hills, forests, rivers, and gardens make it one of the greenest cities, as it is properly named “the City of Roses.” The city is visibly and culturally diverse with numerous ethnic restaurants, small-time coffee shops, beautiful monuments, water features, spectacular viewpoints and colorful gardens. Public transportation is available throughout the city via bus or electric train. Portland boasts active daily charms from shopping to hiking to cycling, as well as a vivid and exciting nightlife. Portland is known as the microbrew capital of the US, and has more microbreweries within city limits than any other city in the world. Home to multiple universities, Portland appeals to just about everyone. The culture and atmosphere of Portland is more relaxed and friendly than most US cities, and the people there intend to keep it that way. To truly understand the beauty and thrill of Portland, you have to experience it for yourself.

I finally made it to Tigard Oregon’s new park. It’s rad. Quirky, but fun. It was a total zoo there because the weather was nice, but it was still a blast. A few BMX guys were getting bent out of shape by some perceived snaking, but it was really just a case of too many people and too much going on to keep tabs on everyone. If you bring a bag into the park, a city ordinance says the cops can search it. I’m not sure how the ACLU feels about that. So that weird double level coping setup that looks like it’s a big mistake is actually a lot of fun. You’re free to ignore the top layer if you want, but you also have the option of figuring out multiple lines that incorporate it. Lip tricks on the top layer look rad in combination with a roll in or lip trick on the lower layer. It’s set up in such a way that you don’t have to be Joe-pro skater to use that top layer, but if you are then more power to you. I didn’t get a lot (OK, any) shots in the wide open area. I was more interested in skating there my first day, so I made my photo opps as quick as possible. More after the jump.
